Domination

The Boston Bruins are currently leading Vancouver, 5-1, in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Championship series.  They are playing in Boston, where they have pretty much dominated each game.  They have lost all three games in Vancouver so far -- all by only one goal!

A team could dominate an entire hockey game, yet still lose.  The outcome of the game depends on goals scored, not shots on goal nor time of possession.

The same could be said of soccer.

The same could be said of football.

The same could be said of baseball.

I'm not so sure about basketball.  Usually the dominating team will win.

So, when the sports announcers talk about "what it will take to win this game," I always respond:  "Score the most goals/points/runs!"

I don't think they ever hear me, because they ask the exact same question before the next game....
