Dad 474: Zack Flies the Coop

(We will be cheering on the Black Bears this fall. Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! The weather lately has been very much like summer with the air-conditioners working daily (and some nights). Typical weather for the season.

Well, we are sad a little today as Zack went to school (University of Maine) to start his college career. He will be missed in his hometown but will be working to better himself for the future. Good luck, Zack! Study hard! Don't do anything stupid!

Still in the middle of our Illinois family visitation. Did lose our granddaughter Kelsey's in-laws who were here for a short week (Gary, Kathy and their daughter Faith); they kept busy and said they would return to Maine. Hope so!

More next week. Tune in.

Until next time!

Surf 'n Turf

Debbie and Glen had the whole gang down to their house last night for the evening meal.

Many lobsters were consumed... not by me.

I did eat my share of tenderloin. This succulent meat was courtesy of Zachariah's parents, who brought it from Illinois.

We also had Illinois corn.

The whoopie pies and my can of Moxie were "native" (as was the lobster).

It was a yummy meal and really good family time!

  • Zach's parents and sister
Joe and Kaelen were already here, so all Illinois family is accounted for....

Dad 473: I Got Heart Rhythm

(Dad had quite the morning. Enjoy his post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another great summer day in the area. Supposed to be really great through Monday.

Well, today I was up early and Lew delivered me to Maine Medical Center for my heart problem. It was beating out of sequence. In order to get it beating in rhythm, I must get shocked. Suffice it to say, they put me to sleep and shocked me once. I did not jump up off the table as they do on television. The heart started beating regularly. The cardiologist told me it was working and she would see me later in her office. When? She will let me know.

It could last in rhythm or go back to AFib. Hope it sticks. How long? I don't know. But I'll take it for now.

Rest of Illinois family arrives tomorrow!

Until next time!

A Miserable, Melancholic, Moody Monday

I'm dealing with the dregs of my cold. It's so much fun. 😳

It rained this afternoon. It's still raining this evening. It's supposed to rain tomorrow.

An early bedtime sure sounds like a great idea.

Signed,
Eeyore

A Day to Celebrate

July 20th is...
  • Dad's birthday. Happy Birthday to you, Dad!
  • Debbie & Glen's anniversary. Happy Anniversary, you two!
  • Lew's & my anniversary. Happy Anniversary, Sweetie! Nineteen years and counting!

The Lobster Bowl football game was today. Zack was named to the West squad but opted not to play after he tweaked his knee a bit during a practice this week. All is well, but it's better not to take a chance of a more serious injury. Congratulations, Zack, on a very successful high school football career! Best wishes at the college level!

I have been fighting a head cold this week. I am opting to take it easy this weekend in an attempt to regain 100% health. Ahchoo!

Dad 472: The Front of the Envelope

(Aha! Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another very warm summer day here in the Northeast. Temperatures this Saturday to be close to 100°. Last day this warm was in 2011.

All is well here as we seem to be getting along quite nicely. I do have a mistake to clear up. Please continue reading.

A few days ago we had a family discussion about the front of an envelope. There were several family members that said the front was the side with the addresses and stamps on them. I was the lone holdout. I thought the front had the flap on it. A few days later I mailed a check with a bill. I now change my mind as I placed the check behind the company bill. That is the only way the check wouldn't block the return address through the clearing on the envelope. Hence the front is the flat side and the flap side will remain the back side. I stand corrected. Imagine that. Me being wrong!

Until next time!

A July Tradition

Yesterday Lew and I had our annual beach walk & ice cream night with my friend Carmen.

The beach walk was lovely. The tide was out, the beach was clean, and the weather was gorgeous. It wasn't too hot, nor was it too windy. It really was just right. (Baby Bear would have approved.)

No comment is really needed regarding the ice cream, because everyone knows ice cream is yummy.

Lew's Logbook: Turkey on the Bird Bath

(I hope you enjoy Lew's post today. I sure do! ~ Tracy)

I set up a nice bird bath last summer to complement my bird feeders, which I have spoken about ad nauseam.

It is fun to watch the little birdies getting a drink or splashing around.

We looked out the window around 6:00 Wednesday night and saw this little birdie getting a drink.

I thought of the well-known words of Sheriff Brody in Jaws: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

I’m gonna need a bigger bird bath.

Happy Birthday to Mom

My mom turned 81 years old today!

I told her she could say her age is "9-squared" or "3 to the 4th."

She'll probably just go with saying "81."

But what a fun age, don't you think?!

The Front of the Envelope

Which side of the envelope is the front? Believe it or not, this question was a matter of debate in our household last night.

The participants of this discussion were Dad, Mom, Debbie, Glen, Zack, Kaelen, Lew, and I. Only one of the participants maintained the front of the envelope is the side that has the flap. The rest vehemently disagreed.

I just did a google search and everything I found says the front of the envelope is the smooth side... the face where you write the address... or where you might see a window for the address to show through (like on your bills).

So the majority of the family was correct. May the lone holdout come to his senses!

😉😏

Dad 471: Summer Living

(I told Dad to write a very, very short post today. He obliged! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! We are in the summer weather season and the weather is cooperating.

The only other thing I'll mention today is this: Our summer visitors started to arrive yesterday. It was good to see Joe and Kaelen. Joe left today to visit his folks. Kaelen will be a guest of Lew and Tracy for a few weeks.

Life is good.

Until next time!

Let the summer begin!

Lew's Logbook: Zoo Keeper

(Lew writes today! He's been very busy.... ~ Tracy)

This is what I did starting at 6:30 this morning:
  • Fed the cats
  • Cleaned and filled the cats' water bowls
  • Cleaned out both litter boxes
  • Filled bird feeder #1
  • Put a new suet block in bird feeder #2
  • Rinsed and refilled the bird bath
  • Cleaned cat food dishes

(After all that I did devotion, made the bed, had breakfast and went for a walk with the lovely Tracy.)

Sometimes people wonder if they have missed their calling. I’m beginning to think that I should have been a zoo keeper. 😊

Below is a picture of a Pileated Woodpecker in case you’ve never seen one.

Dad 470: Found Doctor!

(An early "Happy Birthday" to the good ole' U.S.A.!  Enjoy Dad's post. ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Gorgeous summer weather is now here. Thanks!

I'm late getting this written. And then only by getting a reminder from Tracy. I totally forgot it was blog day. The reason is below.

Spouse and I went to our primary care provider for the first time in his new office and location. He has been our family doctor for several years. All things are now good and we will be back to our regular schedule now. It is a relief!

Now we are ready for the fourth of July. Happy 4th to all. Look for fireworks!

Until next time!

A Milestone and More

As of today I am covered under my new employer's benefits.... health, dental, LT/ST disability, 401(k), etc.... Woohoo!

Marilyn had her annual appointment at the veterinarian's office today. I am happy to report that Marilyn is in excellent health.

I received an e-mail today that began, "Dear North Carolina resident." Did I miss something? 😏
