5678

My fun math trick for this past year was to tell how old I was by holding up both hands, with all fingers extended. For those of you that need further explanation, each hand represents a digit. So, I'm 55.

But tomorrow is my birthday, so I had to come up with a new math trick. Here it is: 5678.

Explanation: 56 = 7 x 8.

Yes, I am a little geeky.

Farewell, Hondo

When I first started paying attention to professional sports in the early 1970s, many of the Boston "greats" were still playing: Carl Yastrzemski, Bobby Orr, and John Havlicek come to mind. All three are legendary in their respective sports.

I was sad when I heard that John Havlicek passed away on Thursday. I remembered that his nickname was Hondo; I did do a google search to confirm my recollection! It was fun watching him play.

And although I was only about two years old at the time, I am familiar with his most famous play as called by radio broadcaster Johnny Most:
Havlicek stole the ball!

Deja Vu All Over Again

Lew and I have been watching NCIS on Netflix. We're about 2/3 of the way through Season #3.

After watching an episode tonight, we decided to see how the Red Sox were doing. We turned to the baseball game and then we both started looking at our phones (I was deep into a game of Meow Match).

After Devers drove in a couple runs, I thought, "Gee, he did something similar last night." The announcers mentioned another player who had hit a two-run home run earlier in the game. "Gee, that's home runs in the last couple games for that guy." Then the announcers said the Bruins were ahead in their game, 1-0. "Don't the Bruins play tomorrow?"

Right about then, Lew commented on an "equipment adjustment" that he commented on last night as well.

Guess what, dear readers? We were watching "Red Sox in 2" — a two-hour broadcast of last night's game. Tonight's game was rained out!

Lew and I made note of our poor observation skills. We would not make good NCIS agents! 😉

Dad 460: Boston Sports

(Keep winning, Bruins and Celtics! Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! We actually saw some sun today for a while this afternoon. First sun sighting in several days. The temperature made it to the low 50s. The weather report at noon said there was some snow up north in the Allagash region. Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful day. The best of the week. Wow! Will we ever have Spring?

Busy week these next couple days. Shower time for Spouse tomorrow before her haircut. Then to the doctor on Friday. So we'll stay busy for two days.

Bruins and Celtics won first-round series. What a year for Boston sports. Red Sox won the World Series. Patriots won the Super Bowl. Bruins and Celtics in the semi-finals. However, the Sox are now in a real funk. Get going, Red Sox!

All other operations seem to be functioning normally. Sooo....

Until next time!

Double Digits

Today was my 10th day of work at my new job, so I made it into double digits!

I've learned so much already, and I know that there is still a lot more to learn. I am very busy, which is the way I like the workday to be.

Day #11 tomorrow!

Chip, Chip, Pretty Bird

When I asked Lew if he wanted to write today's post, he responded, "I don't have anything. There's only so many times you can write about birds."

My unspoken response to Lew is, "Watch me!"

We went to visit Matt, Emily, Eli, and Adam after our breakfast out this morning. They have a beautiful little bird named Chip (as well as two cats). Chip was quite lively this morning; he and I chatted quite a bit. The title of this post represents our entire conversation, which was repeated many times.

I took some photos of Chip before we left. He really is a pretty bird!

HAPPY EASTER!

Stretching his wings!

He posed when he realized I was taking a picture of him. Really, he did.  ;-)

"Who you lookin' at?"

Dad 459: Waiting

(The errand is done and the salads are eaten. Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another bright sunny day here in the Northeast. It is almost 60°. However, the experts tell us that until next Monday we are in for a few showers (even through Easter) but the temperatures will be above freezing. Maybe even hit 60° or above. A regular heat wave.

Now we wait. For what, you ask? Well I believe Glen, Deb, and Zack will return from their Illinois visit today. Probably will not see any of them until tomorrow. Hope their travel plans work out well. I'm sure they hated to leave Illinois and Bode.

We (Spouse and I) sit here watching game shows waiting to eat our dinner. Tonight we have salads (made by Lew) in the fridge. Lew has gone to pick up Tracy from work and then they will run a few errands (or at least one).

Tune in next week for another trip down memory lane.

Until next time!

Changes

I started a new job last Wednesday!

I didn't think I would ever leave my previous job, but toward the end of February there were a lot of personnel changes going on in the office. So I decided it was time for me to move on, too. I was sad to leave but it was the right decision.

My new job is in a completely different industry, so I have LOTS to learn. (Fortunately, the knowledge of debits and credits is transferable!) The new gig is going well so far, and I am enjoying it. My schedule is somewhat different now, but I am getting used to it.

I wanted to end this post with some great philosophical statement about how changes can be both difficult and good at the same time, but everything I was coming up with sounded too corny. Thus ends my post!

Lew's Logbook: Kitties Enjoying Fresh Air

(It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Lew writes today. 😊  ~  Tracy)

Today is the first day I have opened the window in the living room.

Right now it is 70 degrees outside.

The cats are enjoying the fresh air and Mr. Finch has no idea that two vicious predators are lurking close by ready to strike.

Hopefully many more days like this are on the way.

Dad 458: Tooth of Wisdom

(I will be glad when the snow is gone for good. Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Finally a nice day. Not warm, but clear and sunny. Temp did reach high 30s. It seems that the northwest is getting a bad winter storm today. Blizzard conditions! Last night it was blizzard conditions here. But today the snow is melting. I think we had summer last weekend. We reached 60°.

Well, Spouse had her tooth pulled out on Monday. It was a wisdom tooth that had broken. The doctor and his assistant said Spouse did well. We are trying to follow the post-procedure instructions to prevent any problems. It is going well. Thank you!

Glen, Deb, and Zack should be visiting Zachariah, Kelsey, and Bode now. I hope they can avoid the bad weather out in the northwest. Hope they have a great visit. Weather permitting, Kim will also see them tonight. Wish we were there!

Shutting down for now.

Until next time!

When Cats Don't Get Their Way

Jerry wasn't too happy with me this morning when I wouldn't let him go visit my parents yet.

He expressed his outrage by knocking over as many things as he could on our dining room table. (This is why we don't keep too much stuff on it.)

The reward for his misbehavior: He eventually got to go visit.

We love our kitties!  😺😸😻

Winter Returns.... UGH!

It SNOWED today. Grrrr....

At first it was the fluffy kind, but then it turned into the ice-pellet, yucky stuff. Grrrr....

It was slushy and cold.

I stored my winter boots last week, because winter is supposed to be OVER. I do have some boot-type shoes, though, so they were put in service today.

Spring, please come back!

Lew's Logbook: Modified Bird Feeder

(After a hiatus of almost four months, Lew returns to blogging. Enjoy his post! ~ Tracy)

I have written about my new-found hobby of maintaining a bird feeder that I can observe from my recliner.

Now sis-in-law Deb has gotten the bird feeding bug. But she doesn’t have one feeder. She has about four of them hanging in her front yard and now is telling me she’s going to expand.

Last week she drove into the yard with Zack and commented, “Uncle Lew really needs to step it up with his bird feeder.” What!?! I have a very nice feeder that attracts all kinds of birds. But her comment got me to thinking....

My daughter-in-law gave me a suet block for Christmas, so I bought an attachment for my feeder pole and stepped it up a little.

I don’t think I can keep up with Deb though. She’s on a mission to create a birdie food court in her yard.

Dad 457: Final Four!

(My mother is used to losing body parts, ha ha! Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Still waiting for spring weather. We want the temperature to rise up. Still freezing at night, and today as I write this the temp is 38°. Want temps in the 70s. Thank you!

Not too much going on the rest of the week. Have a foot doctor appointment tomorrow. The next appointment is next Monday for Spouse. She will have a tooth pulled. It will be a first for her. Her wisdom tooth chipped and must come out.

Looking forward to the final four games this weekend in both men's and women's divisions. Then to the championships as the college basketball season ends. Don't have any teams that I care that much about except women's UConn team. I believe they are in the final four for the 12th straight year. A remarkable record. Always competitive! Go UConn!

Shutting down now. So....

Until next time!

Play Ball . . . ?

I haven't yet commented on the start of the season for the Red Sox. There really hasn't been much to write about!

They started the regular season on the west coast, so most of the games have been on late at night. Zzzzzz.... We haven't been watching.

After five games, their record is a whopping 1-4.  And the game they won was a comeback in the 9th inning, so they very well could be 0-5.

But they are the reigning World Series champions, so there is that fact to hold near and dear.

Let's go, Red Sox!
