Dad 565: Daily Visits

(Double Derf this week! Enjoy! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Today started as a cloudy rainy day in the south of Maine. The other 2/3 of the state was pretty much sunny. By afternoon the state was all sunny. Tomorrow and Friday will give us much needed rain. Hope we get some wet weather.

Just got back from visiting Mary Lou. We now can schedule one-hour visits any day between 10 AM and 4 PM. Josh and I visited the first 15 minutes. Deb then came in place of Josh. Deb called Kim and they had a video chat with pictures and Bode clips. We sat with Mary Lou until she asked to go back to her room. She lasted about 45 minutes.

Will try to get hour-long visits every day next week. Will get a new chair to put in Mary Lou's room so I can see her daily for a longer time at some point. Want to visit in her room! We will see how it goes. Stay tuned.

Until next time!

Dad 564: An Unexpected Visit

(A special Tuesday edition of Derf! Enjoy! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another fairly good spring-ish day here in the Northeast. We'll take many more before summer gets here. We hope!

Just got a call from the nursing home. Was asked if I wanted a visit with Mary Lou for this afternoon. I already have two face-to-face visits scheduled for the week. Maybe the visit schedule is getting a little more relaxed. So this afternoon I'll be meeting with Spouse at 3:00 PM for 1/2 hour. Still waiting to be able to visit her in her room. Should already be able to do that. Get Real!

Must pause now and continue after I've met with Mary Lou.

{ Interlude. }

I am back from my visit.

Face-to-face visit for about 25 minutes and Mary Lou was tired. She went back to her room after a nice visit. We talked about a lot of things regarding her dementia and not remembering much. It will be so much easier when we have complete visitation in her room. We will be able to help her with some problems she's having (such as keeping her phone charged). Looking forward to that.

Until next time!

Checkbook Challenge

Dad's checkbook balance has been off for a few months. He knew he had more than his checkbook reflected, so no worries on overdrawing at least.

I told him I would figure it out for him. My plan was to back into what his balance should be over the next couple months.

But then Dad told me that I wouldn't be able to figure out where the errors were made.

So my plan quickly changed to figure out where the errors were made.

And I did it.

He said I couldn't do it, but I did it!

Challenge presented. Challenge met.

Dad 563: Need More Visits!

(I am looking forward to Saturday! Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! It is just after lunchtime and the temperature is 59°. There are possible severe thunder showers moving up the East Coast. Don't know if we'll get them or not.

I am now preparing for an afternoon visit with Mary Lou. Deb is going to pick me up at 3:30 PM for a 3:45 PM visit. Looking forward to it. I will finish this post upon my return home after our visit.

{ Interlude }

Well, I am back from our visit. When Deb picked me up it started to rain with thunder. We got very wet getting into the building. The rain stopped as we visited and the sun was out when we returned home.

The visit was enjoyed by all. Deb had her phone and Kim, Kaelen, and Cocoa said "Hi" to Mary Lou on a video chat. They had a conversation that was enjoyed by all.

Now I'm glad to announce that Tracy and I will be visiting Mary Lou at 1:00 PM on Saturday. But we should be allowed to visit every day in the patient's room by now, so let's get back to normal!

Until next time!

Chess Challenge

I finished reading "The Queen's Gambit" for the second time recently. I wanted to watch the series on Netflix before I forgot the details, so Lew and I watched all seven episodes this past weekend.

The series stays pretty true to the book, although there are a few differences. Nothing major, though.

There are some bad words in the show and in the book, so I wouldn't recommend either to children.

The story itself is mesmerizing. I do enjoy a good story!

Cuisine Challenge

Last night Lew and I went out to dinner with my former boss and her family.

I ordered something I had never eaten before: a hamburger topped with macaroni and cheese! It was scrumptious.

When Lew makes a hamburger for me, he often puts cheese on it. I wonder if he will add the macaroni sometime for me, too....

Hmmmmm....   🤔

Dad 562: More Visits

(A Thursday post by Dad. Enjoy! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Fair day today but the temp is not ready for T-shirts. Still only 50° and it seems cooler. Nicer spring weather will be here soon and we must remember it is only mid-April.

Yesterday I saw Mary Lou with Deb. We got our hugs and Deb got Kim on the phone so Mary Lou saw Kim from Illinois. A good time was had by all. Then I went home and forgot to write my blog post. Tracy was home late from work, so we decided to do the post today.

I just got back from seeing Mary Lou today (a window visit). Lew drives me around now and will do so until I get my surgery boot off. The surgery boot is on my right foot, and as soon as my toe is fully healed I will put my shoe back on. Then Lew will be over his chauffeur duties.

Must start getting ready for our Memorial Day weekend yard sale. It will be here before we know it. Time will go by quickly... very quickly!

Until next time!

Derf Tomorrow!

I got home from work late today. Dad hadn't written his post yet, so we decided to postpone Derf until tomorrow. Check back then! 😊

A Father/Daughter Outing

I worked from home today so that I could fit in some personal things that needed attention. One of those things was a trip with Dad to his bank to make some account changes. There were three people working at the bank, and they all ended up helping us at some point. We were there for over an hour and a half. We accomplished everything at the bank that we had hoped to. We had a wonderful time!  😀

Another Visit

Dad and I had another "hugging" visit with Mom this afternoon. We were the last visitors of the day, so we were able to stay a little longer than the normal half hour. Toward the end of our visit we did a short video chat on my phone with Kim, Joe, and Kaelen. Mom enjoyed seeing them.

It was great to spend some time with Mom, and I know she was happy to see us, too. It will be nice when we can start visiting her in her room whenever we want to. I'm not sure when that will be, but I hope it is soon. Praying for the pandemic hysteria to end!

Dad 561: Finally!

(Dad writes today. Enjoy his post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another cloudy spring day in the Northeast. It is fairly warm without the sun (54°). Still waiting for temperatures in the 70s. Time to get out in the yard!

Well, Tracy and I saw Mary Lou last Saturday. It was a meeting in which we were allowed to actually have contact with her. I hugged my wife of 60 years for the first time in over one year. Tracy also hugged her mom. We enjoyed this meeting. I have another meeting with her this coming Saturday and I will get to hug her again. It will be a great Saturday. We will be glad when we are finally allowed to visit in her room and sit with her in the afternoons.

Debbie, Glen, and Josh visited Mary Lou on Monday. They had pictures taken with her. Mary Lou even showed her teeth in her photo with her grandson.

I completed my vaccination for COVID-19. Had the second shot last Tuesday. Tracy received her first shot and will get her second shot in a couple weeks.

Zack got in the Maine football game last Saturday. He played two plays. Nothing happened on the first play. On the second play, Zack blocked his opponent and his team scored! Great job, Zack! (His team lost the game, however.)

Until next time!

An Employee Benefit

My desk at work is very close to the reception area.  This is a very bad thing, because the reception area counter has a basket on it.  In that basket are Red Bird Peppermint Candy Puffs. I think each piece is about 20 calories, so I am adding hundreds of calories a day from eating these. Yes, I eat that many. I pick them up by the handful. They help me get through the long afternoons. (Does this qualify as an addiction?) I'm sure they are great for my teeth as well!

😁

Note to self:  Stay away from the counter.

Dose #1

After work today I went to the vaccination clinic at Scarborough Downs to get my first shot (Pfizer). It was quite the set up — very well organized. I go back for my booster in three weeks.

Debbie, Glen, and Josh had a visit with Mom today. From what I hear, she was glad to see Debbie and Glen, but REALLY excited to see Josh. Hugs all around.😀

I am very happy about being able to post on the blog tonight. We lost cable/internet around 6PM, and we heard it was a widespread outage (perhaps nationwide) for Spectrum customers. They were estimating 10PM for service restoration, but we got it back shortly after 7:30PM. Lew and I chatted about how much we now depend on this technology. I was all set to spend the evening reading (and I will still do some of that), but it will be nice to be able to have the NCAA championship basketball game on, too.

Last night we watched the women's basketball championship. It was an exciting game and came down to the very final seconds. I wasn't really rooting for one team over the other, but I felt bad that one of them had to lose.... That's sports!
