Lew's Logbook: R.V. Miracle

(Lew writes today. I echo his thanks! ~ Tracy)

Thank You, God.

So we’re going on this trip to Illinois in an R.V. The only vehicle we could find required a 2-hour drive to Massachusetts. That would mean, with all of the paperwork involved, about 10 hours just to pick up and return. We were not thrilled with this arrangement but it was the best we could do.

However, there is a person that both Fred and Glen know who has a nice R.V. that he does not often use. He was asked if he would consider renting it to us for a week but he didn’t seem receptive to the idea.

I was somewhat anxious regarding our trip to Massachusetts, so I started praying about it. God seemed to say that it would be okay and I began to accept the idea of our arrangement.

Thursday night Glen received a call from the gentleman he knows with the nice R.V. He had thought about it and decided that we could take it for the week if we were still interested. YES!! This vehicle is literally a mile away.

Nicer R.V., less $$, and so many obstacles removed.

Again.... Thank You, God.

Our Frasier Addiction

While eating dinner, Lew and I like to watch at least one episode of Frasier. (Thank you, Netflix.) I believe there are 11 seasons, and we've made it through five already.  We just watched the first three episodes of Season 6.

I remember watching the show when it originally aired, although I know I didn't see every single episode.  But even for those episodes we've already seen, Lew and I still laugh out loud at the crazy antics of the Crane brothers.

Niles Crane was one of the best supporting characters ever on TV, second only to Barney Fife. And Eddie (played by Moose and then Moose's son) was as much a part of the cast as the human beings were.

It's really a fun show.

I almost want to visit Seattle.

Dad 316: T-Minus 7 Days

(The house-sitters are lined up, the suitcases are down from the attic, and my new shoes have arrived. Enjoy Dad's post!   ~  Tracy)

Derf Here! Another beautiful summer day enjoyed here in the Northeast. The air conditioner has been working overtime. We are keeping cool!

One week from today our Scarborough family members will be on the road to Illinois for Kelsey's wedding to Zach. It seems to be sneaking up on us very quickly. We have been planning this for months and now we are down to just days. It will be one trip we will not forget — definitely! Looking forward to it.

This is all I have for today as I ponder our trip. Tune in next week for an update.

Until next time!

Down In the Mouth

I went to the dentist a week ago today for my semi-annual cleaning and checkup.

At the end of my appointment my dentist broke the bad news: I probably need two more gum grafts.

UGH!!!!!

He gave me a referral to the periodontist who practices right across the hall from him. (This is the same periodontist who did my first two gum grafts.)

I walked across the hall to set up a consultation.

That consultation happened this morning.

Yep . . . I do indeed need two more gum grafts.

UGH!!!!!

We scheduled the first one for August 26th.  We'll wait until after the new year to do the second one.

What fun, what fun, what fun . . . .

I just heard thunder!

I just saw lightning!

I think I better turn off my computer.

It's just another hot July night in Southern Maine....

Lew's Logbook: FB

(Lew shares his social media wisdom with his post today. Take heed. ~ Tracy)

It’s not that hard to enjoy Facebook. I often hear people say they don’t have time or that they don’t like what they see on FB so they don’t bother. I’m not advocating that people should be on FB, I’m just saying that those excuses don’t work. There have been many occasions when I have said to someone, “you would have known that if you were on FB”.

First rule of FB, don’t allow people to be in your news feed unless you really are interested in their life. This will probably eliminate up to 70 or 80% of your “friends”. Simply accept their friend request (don’t want to hurt feelings) and then hide them.

Second rule, if someone is posting political, religious or tasteless stuff that you don’t like, just hide them. Don’t allow yourself to be aggravated. It is not that hard to manage your FB account. You will learn things about people that you would like to know and you’ll have some friends that will share funny and interesting posts.

Finally, if it is taking too much time to go through your news feed, do some more trimming. Keep it manageable and you’ll enjoy it more.

Focus

We will be leaving for Kelsey's wedding in 12 days.

Between now and then, I am in full preparation mode.

I told Lew that other than work and other commitments already on my schedule, I am not doing anything unrelated to the upcoming trip.

Let the insanity begin!

East Over West, 58-52

Lew and I went to the Lobster Bowl game this past Saturday to watch Josh play on the West team. It was such a fun football game! We would have preferred a West victory, but it didn't really matter in the end. It was a totally wonderful experience.

And, speaking of lobsters, we all risked looking like a cooked one by the end of the game. The sun was bearing down on us and it was hot.... So very hot.

Still, Debbie and I managed to look pretty cool, don't you think?!

Fortunately I Didn't Need to Iron

It is an unwritten rule that the man should not be more "dressed up" than the woman when going out.

Lew and I had an event to attend tonight. I was going to wear a summery top with slacks.

After brushing my teeth I entered our bedroom to find Lew dressed in an ensemble of nice slacks, dress shirt, suit coat, and tie.

Suffice it to say we left a little later than we had planned to.

Lew's Logbook: WARNING!!

I go down to the beach a lot and I often wonder what the water temperature is at the time. It seems like it can vary quite a bit in just a few days.

So I had the clever thought that there might be an app for that. Sure enough I found a free H2O Temp app.

The next time I went to the beach I used it. I put my phone in the water for one minute. But before I could get a reading on the water temperature, my phone quit working.

Be careful if you download a water temp app. Apparently some of them can really mess up your phone.

(Tracy here. After I read this the first time, I said to Lew, "You made that up." I hope he did anyway. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)

I Am a Rock Star

Yesterday was Student Appreciation Day at work. The event had a "Rock Star" theme, which explains why I was asked to decorate a guitar. (See last Friday's post.)

I brought Lew's toy air guitar with me so I could impress everyone with my skills. (Ha ha!) Here's a picture of me playing it.... I really am a rock star!!!

Lew Brings Me a Gift

I got a call from Lew about 2:00 yesterday afternoon. "Come out back. I have something for you," he said.

I told my office mate that my husband was here and that I'd be right back in.

As I made my way to the parking lot in back of our building, I figured out what Lew had brought me.... Yesterday, after all, was National French Fry Day.  :)

I'd already shared some with my work colleagues by the time I took this picture. (Yum!)

Dad 314: Don't Sit Under the Chestnut Tree

(My father wrote for the blog today; I learned about a poem. Enjoy Dad's post!  ~  Tracy)

Derf Here! Another hot summer day in the Northeast.  Air conditioner is working well. Next few days will be hot and humid. Showers are a distinct possibility. We sure do need some rain.

About three weeks ago I called the Department of Public Works about a very dead tree limb hanging over our road. One huge branch had already crashed to the ground about ten minutes after Lew had mowed the lawn. This area belongs to the town, but we've mowed the area for about 40 years. It makes our yard look a whole lot larger.

A worker came and looked over the tree. It was a beautiful chestnut tree. (I'm sure the village smithy stood under this spreading chestnut tree a hundred years or so ago.) Well, the department cut the tree to the ground this week. The tree was rotten rotten. The crew did a great job and we will have a little more to mow in the future. A good job!

All our visitors have gone home. Wedding plans for Kelsey and Zach are going ahead for August 6th. Looking forward to the trip.

Stay tuned!

Until next time!

All-Star Birthday

When my mother's birthday falls on a Tuesday, there is usually a fun baseball game to watch that night on TV.

This is a Tuesday year.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

And here's hoping for an American League win.  :)

Maybe Tomorrow

Did you ever wonder what would happen if you had a great idea for a blog post but forgot what it was when you finally got around to writing it?

This is what would happen.

(Postscript: What? You were expecting more? THIS IS what would happen.)

Lew's Logbook: What To Do?

(Lew shares on this rainy Saturday in Southern Maine. Enjoy!  ~ Tracy)

On July 4th my brother-in-law Glen and I were making plans for the following Thursday. He was on vacation and I’m available so we thought we would get together and do something fun.

I knew it was going to be fun because Glen is a fun guy and I’m blessed to have him as my B-I- L.

Our options were to go golfing, go to the range (we both belong to a shooting club), or hop on our motorcycles and ride up to Naples and have nachos at Rick’s Café. I would call this an embarrassment of riches.

We ended up at the range because of the weather and had a great time honing our shooting skills. Then we followed that with a stop for gourmet burgers.

People ask me all the time how I like retirement.... See above.

Here's mine!

Wedding Bell Blues

I haven't decided on what to wear to my niece Kelsey's wedding. Last night I showed my family one of the options, but it was resoundly rejected.... I don't understand why.... I've had this for only 20 years.  ;)

Dad 313: Wave, Wade, Walk, Work

(Dad didn't mention that I went to work today, but I'll let it go. Enjoy his post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Enjoying another beautiful summer day in the great Northeast.

Home waiting for family members to arrive for an evening visit prior to leaving for home tomorrow. Niece Kathy and husband, Gordon, will head back to Indianapolis; Kim, Joe, and Cocoa will head home to Illinois. It seems as though they just arrived. Weeks don't last long in the summertime when relatives visit. We will all be together in one month as Kelsey will get married one month from today. Looking forward to it!

Joe dove through a wave today. Kim went wading. Lew also waded. They just got back from their beach walk.

I don't feel like writing anymore. So I won't!

Until next time!

Where Did I Park?

It was quiet at work today. Lots of people were off and some folks left early.

I didn't leave early myself, although I didn't stay as late as I normally do.

Here's what the parking lot looked like when I left. That is one lonely-looking car!

Happy Birthday, USA!

Kathy and Aunt Debbie (front row) made Kim, Debbie, and me pose for a photo wearing holiday headgear.

Joe, Glen, Gordon, and Lew couldn't wait to pose for a picture, too!

Happy Birthday, USA!

Lew's Logbook: iPhone Camera

(Enjoy Lew's post! ~ Tracy)

I have an iPhone but do not know how to use half the functions. (Tracy has an iPhone so I have an iPhone.) The texting feature is great and I use it with Tracy, family and friends. It is very handy to convey messages that can be read at the recipient’s convenience.

But the feature I like the best is the camera. It is so nice to be able to grab pictures at the spur of the moment. I’m old enough to really appreciate this. Back in the day you not only needed a camera but you also needed to have film. A lot of pictures went untaken. Now I can snap a picture of the grandkids or a lovely piece of nature at anytime.

Tracy and I went for an early morning walk one morning and I took this picture. Technology can be very cool.

Every Party Needs Art

Late – and short – post tonight because we had company: a dinner party with Aunt Debbie, Kathy & Gordon, Pastor Dave's family, and Pastor Dave's parents.

The little girls decorated our driveway while they were here. I took some photos for your enjoyment!
