Dad 314: Don't Sit Under the Chestnut Tree

(My father wrote for the blog today; I learned about a poem. Enjoy Dad's post!  ~  Tracy)

Derf Here! Another hot summer day in the Northeast.  Air conditioner is working well. Next few days will be hot and humid. Showers are a distinct possibility. We sure do need some rain.

About three weeks ago I called the Department of Public Works about a very dead tree limb hanging over our road. One huge branch had already crashed to the ground about ten minutes after Lew had mowed the lawn. This area belongs to the town, but we've mowed the area for about 40 years. It makes our yard look a whole lot larger.

A worker came and looked over the tree. It was a beautiful chestnut tree. (I'm sure the village smithy stood under this spreading chestnut tree a hundred years or so ago.) Well, the department cut the tree to the ground this week. The tree was rotten rotten. The crew did a great job and we will have a little more to mow in the future. A good job!

All our visitors have gone home. Wedding plans for Kelsey and Zach are going ahead for August 6th. Looking forward to the trip.

Stay tuned!

Until next time!
