Dad 452: Spring Training

(I would be happy if March would come in like a lamb, as well as out. Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another cold 15° day in the Northeast. Supposed to get slight snow tonight and a bright sunny cold day for the last day of February. Hopefully winter is thinking about being over. I'm sure ready for warm sunny days.

Spouse's visit to her surgeon went well. He looked at her non-arm and said it looked good. Not necessary to see him again unless there is a future problem. A good sixth-month visit.

Just asked Spouse for a subject to write about today. She was no help.

Was excited to see baseball is in spring training now. Watched a spring training game last weekend. Weather surely looked good. Short-sleeve shirts and sitting in the sun. I'm for that.

March – in like a lion – out like a lamb. We all can hope.

That's about it!

Until next time!

A Really Fun Day

Lew says that yesterday will be a day that lives in infamy....

I had a colonoscopy.

My first one was just over five years ago. No difficulties with the prep that time, nor with the test itself. My troubles came after the procedure. (You can read about it by clicking HERE.)

I was not as fortunate with the prep this time. The prep used Milk of Magnesia. I was able to get through all of the phases of the prep except for the very last step. Why? Well, let's just say that things started to come out of the wrong end around 8:00PM Sunday evening... so I'm now pretty sure that my body does not tolerate Milk of Magnesia.

I tried to sip some water and/or ginger ale a couple times overnight and early yesterday morning. Nothing would stay down. It was not pretty.

I spoke with the doctor's office around 7:15AM and they said to still come even though I had not completed the prep. So with my head hanging over a green vomiting bag (thank you, Mom!), Lew drove me to the facility. My ability to stay vertical went downhill quickly, but the nurses soon got me onto a stretcher and began pumping fluids into me. One nurse (an angel, I think) put a cold cloth over my forehead and eyes. And by some miracle, the doctor was able to complete the entire colonoscopy. Apparently everything had come out okay, and all was well.

I am still very tired from the ordeal, but I am feeling much, much, much, much, much better today.

Gotta run... it's time for dinner!

Dad 451: Lobster Bowl Bound

(Josh and now Zack... two-for-two on nephews in the Lobster Bowl! Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another nice day with sun but is clouding up late. It has been cold the last few days. Temps in the 20s. Snow later tonight into tomorrow. A quick hitting storm. Only 3 to 5 inches expected.

Congratulations to grandson Zack for being chosen to play this summer in the Lobster Bowl. It is for seniors and usually one student from each high school plays in the game. The players visit hospitals, I believe, and get to know other seniors playing for the East and West teams. Enjoy the experience, Zack. You have earned it!

Hard to believe Zack graduates from high school this June. And Josh only has one more year at Maine Maritime Academy. Where have the years gone?

Spouse soon to have her final checkup with her surgeon who removed her arm last August. Looking forward to this meeting. Keep you posted next week.

So long for now.

Until next time!

Vacation Week

This is school vacation week around here, and it is a vacation week for someone else: ME!

Today I had a nice phone conversation with a friend, used the elliptical machine, did some reading, and . . . well, that's about it.

It was a wonderful day!

😊

Zack Signs!

It’s not every day your nephew is on the local news!
Congratulations, Zack! (And congratulations, U.Maine!)

Dad 450: The "All Clear!"

(My day: snow and headache. A good day to stay home, so I did! Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Snowed last night and this morning. Officially, seven inches in Portland. All cleared up this morning.

Well, I saw my infectious disease doctor yesterday. Had blood drawn to check if it was still clear. Got a call yesterday afternoon and was told my blood was still clear of infection and bacteria. So I'm all done with infectious disease doctor unless something else happens. I'm free!!! Whoopee!!!

Back to my foot doctor and carefully checking any bruises that I have on my nine toes. Will take good care of any other situations. Hope I'll never face sepsis again.

The couch is used by Spouse and me daily. She gets good use of her iPad.

Congratulations to grandson Zack as he will be signing with University of Maine (Orono) to play D-1 football. He will be rooming with the quarterback that he won the high school state championship with. (The quarterback spent a year of post-graduate for football and studies.) They are both happy for their accommodations.

Done for now.

Until next time!

It's Hibernation Time!

We've had a relatively mild winter, but another storm is expected to start any minute now. I am home from work early, so I will miss the messy commute. (Sometimes having a headache is a good thing!)

I was chatting with a lovely young woman at church on Sunday, and she offered her idea of us all hibernating until winter is over. Her observation was unsolicited by me, but I wholeheartedly offered my agreement. She truly is wise beyond her years.

Stay warm everybody!

A Dream Realized . . . ?

When Luanne and I went shopping last Saturday, I bought three pairs of these trousers by roz & ALI.  (Three because I wanted black, blue, and gray.)

It is the closest I will come to realizing my lifelong dream of being a spy. 😏

Dad 449: A Post-Super-Bowl Post

(Yes, I came up with the title of today's entry. It's not my best work.... But enjoy Dad's post anyway! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another nice day. Only about 30° today. Yesterday up to 63° in Maine on February 5th. We'll take it!

Well, the Super Bowl was not a high-scoring affair. The right team won for all the Northeast people. Congrats to the coaches and team players for another world championship. Their sixth win in nine appearances since 2001. Not bad!!

We've gained one hour of daylight as now it is not dark until after 5 o'clock. February is one week old now and only has three more weeks. Hurry up and let March in. Please!

Spouse and I are getting along pretty well on our couch daily as we get caught up with some game shows and Gunsmoke.

Will go to my infectious disease doctor soon and hope everything is good. Let you know next week.

Until next time!

A Milestone...?

On Saturday I went shopping with my friend Luanne.

We had lunch at IHOP. (Yum.) As I perused the menu, I gasped when I got toward one of the latter pages....

This page had a section of specials for the 55+ crowd... as in people 55 years of age and older... as in people considered to be seniors... as in... me! 😩

I quickly turned to the front of the menu and ordered a stack of Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity® Pancakes topped with glazed strawberries.  🍓

Number Six

I have been a delinquent blogger. I actually do have a few things to write about now, but I will stretch them out over several posts.

There was a football game last night — something called the "Super Bowl" — and the team I wanted to win actually won. (They hardly ever win. 😉)

Lew and I haven't really followed the NFL for a couple years, but we began to make a careful return to it late this season.  Lew has watched more than I have, and that included last night's game. In fact, I didn't watch most of the second half (opted to read instead). But I did watch the last couple minutes. It was relatively stress-free viewing.

That was ring number six for the Patriots.

And the Red Sox are the reigning World Series champions.

It's good to be a New England sports fan.
