Get to the Point

I've almost finished reading Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John LeCarre.

I keep thinking about the following lines from the book (on page 90 in the edition that I have):

"He doesn't like devious explanations. He has a saying: he'll only believe what can be written on a postcard."

That's something to consider. Expressing the truth can usually be done quite simply.

Gee, what would happen if our nation's lawmakers began adhering to this standard? Perhaps politics would become an honorable profession!

I'm not holding my breath.
