The Results Are In

I never got around to promoting my "What Should I Learn?" poll like I intended to.  I did post the link on Facebook -- but only once.  I was just about to post it again when I said to myself, "Nah, I have enough feedback already!"

Of the four options, "Piano" and "eBay" were the most popular.  The most recent results had eBay ahead by one vote.  I personally would have voted for the piano, so....

I have decided to learn both!

Actually, I will be revisiting my knowledge of the piano.  It's been a long, long time.  A really LONG time.

And I know virtually nothing about eBay.  My intent is to sell, not buy.  :)

What Should I Learn?

With the recent arrival (and subsequent departure) of another birthday, I decided that I should learn something new.  I wrote about this in last Friday's post.

My mother suggested that I learn how to cook a meal for Lew, but he vetoed that idea immediately.

I spent a little time brainstorming and came up with a good list to choose from.  I also asked Lew for some input, and he wasn't very helpful (other than the aforementioned veto).

I have since narrowed my list down to four options:
1)  Piano.  (I took lessons as a kid, but I haven't kept up with it for a LONG time.)
2)  eBay.  (I've never done anything on eBay.  Maybe I could sell some stuff!)
3)  World geography.  (Never really learned it.  Terrible, I know.)
4)  Morse code.  (Started learning this once, but didn't get very far.)

Glaringly absent from the above list:  learning how to yodel.  Lew didn't like that option for some reason.

I now leave it up to you, my readers, to vote on what you think I should learn.  (See the poll to the right.)  I'm going to put a link to this on Facebook, too.  I don't know how long I'll leave the poll up -- probably until I don't see many changes in the numbers.  Thanks for your input!  I will be sure to report the results.

(Postscript:  I had a couple visitors yesterday!  Emily and Eli stopped by with birthday cards, balloons, and cake!  What fun!)

Hold the Mayo (or Miracle Whip)

Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip?  Lew and I have an ongoing debate about which tastes better.  I prefer Mayonnaise.  He likes Miracle Whip.

So I conducted a little poll on Facebook a couple days ago to ask what other people like better, and 43 of my Facebook friends weighed in!  One of my friends gave her husband's preference as well.

After adding Lew and I to the mix, I have a total of 46 responses.

The Tally:

Mayonnaise = 25
(4  Hellmann's; 2  Cains; 19 no brand specified)

Miracle Whip = 17

It depends on the food = 2
(although one of these folks later indicated Miracle Whip)

Neither = 2
("DISGUSTING" and "I can live without either")

FINAL RESULT:  Mayonnaise 25; Other choices 21.  Mayonnaise wins!

So I heard on the radio this morning that the average couple has like 300 arguments a year. The DJs were wondering what the arguments were about. This one did not come up. :)

They are two different condiments. I prefer Hellmann's taste. One is not better than the other, just different. Like Heinz ketchup: there is a difference in taste between regular, reduced sugar, and no salt varieties. That's why we have 'varieties'.

Thus ends my project on Mayonnaise versus Miracle Whip.  Maybe I should tackle Pepsi versus Coke products next!

Does That Add Up?

After breakfast with our friends this morning, Lew and I made a trip to Staples.  I purchased our 2010 tax preparation software and some adding machine paper rolls.

While working on projects at home recently, I wished that I had an adding machine.  So, I bought one about a week ago.  But I needed some paper rolls, hence today's purchase.

I used an adding machine quite often at my recent job.  Yet the machine that I had on my desk was this teeny little thing -- kind of like a Tinker Toy version.  And it didn't work very well.

I asked a few times about getting a "big girl" adding machine, but I never got one.  I guess the company didn't want to spend the money.  I find this amusing, as the machine I bought for myself cost a mere $30.  Isn't that a small price to pay to please a "valued" employee?  (I've stopped trying to figure that one out!)

Poll Results "The Other Day"

A week ago I wrote about using the phrase "the other day." I decided to run a week-long poll on my blog.

The poll question was:

Would you say "the other day" when referring to yesterday?

The final tally:
2 Yes (both men)
23 No (1 man, 22 women)

I'm not sure that I can really conclude anything based on these results, other than that most of my current blog readers are women!

I do know that one of the 2 "yes" votes was from Lew. I'm assuming that he didn't vote twice. Many thanks to the other man, whoever you are, who voted with Lew. You are not alone! :)

The Other Day

When I say "the other day," I am usually referring to 3 or 4 days ago. Certainly not more than a week ago. And certainly not yesterday.

Lew will use "the other day" to mean just about any day that ever existed, especially yesterday.

A while back, I asked our Saturday morning breakfast buddies if "the other day" could refer to yesterday. She said "no"; he said "yes."

So, is this yet another male vs. female thing? My sample size of 4 people is kind of small. So, I'm trying something new on my blog. A poll!
