LEGO Convention!

Lew and I just got home from attending the BrickUniverse LEGO Convention in Portland.  Matt, Emily, Eli, and Adam went with us.

The creations were amazing, incredible, beautiful, fabulous.... I took lots of photos, but I'm only sharing two in this post. (I took the first one when we got home.)

I want to play with LEGO now!

Spring Cleaning 2022

The clean-and-organize-the-closet project has turned into the clean-and-organize-the-entire-house project!

Fortunately Lew is in agreement on doing (most of) this.

We have both been working hard, but we still have a long way to go. And we do recognize the inevitable: It's going to get worse before it gets better!

But it will be better. 😊

Dad 617: A Fall in Spring

(Dad writes today. The answer to the "more alert" question is "yes." ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! A cloudy, dark day today here in the Northeast. Not the warm sunny day that we wish for. Can't do anything about it. It is the weather, you know.

Lou had another fall yesterday. She has a large bruise on the left side of her face. I understand she went from her activity area to her room by herself, and then was going to transfer herself back to her bed. (This should not happen. She should not be alone roaming about in her chair.)

Tracy and I spent yesterday afternoon with Lou as usual. She was quite sleepy, and I think she had a concussion. We will find out this afternoon if she is more alert.

This is the one thing that scares me. She is strong and doesn't seem to remember not to try things alone. She needs constant watching.

Tune in next week for an update.

Until next time!

The Closet Caper

All of the hangers I ordered have arrived, so I am planning to organize my closet tomorrow. It is going to be a big job, but I am looking at it as an adventure!

I will have a couple breaks from my task: 1) haircut at 11am, and 2) visit Mom in early afternoon. Otherwise it will be closet all day.

In case you are wondering, I will not be posting before/after pictures! 😂

Clothes and a Cat

I went clothes shopping this morning with a friend. I needed some jeans and some shorts for the summer. It was a successful venture! I got great deals on everything because I "bought it, when I saw it, at Marden's!"

Sister Debbie got me hooked on the Netflix series, "Get Organized with The Home Edit." I've watched four episodes so far. If you've seen the show, then you know why I decided to order new clothes hangers today. 😁

The title of this post includes the word Cat. This is because I am sharing a photo of Jerry in his new favorite pose! Meow!

Dad 616: Masks and Millions

(Dad writes today! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another bright sunny day in the Northeast. However, the temps are still in the low 50s with a wind. Quite cool but we're waiting for 70s. Will it come soon? We await the warming up.

The mask mandate has been lifted for travel. (But I won't hold my breath with the administration suggesting it may appeal the lifting if the CDC requires it.) Travelers are now happy. They can wear or not! What a country!

Still visiting Lou daily. Tracy leads off early in the afternoon and I take the last part of the afternoon. Seems to be working out well.

Watching trial of Johnny Depp. Suing his ex-wife for 50 million. She is suing him for 100 million. Trial is not too exciting yet. Expected to last six weeks.

That's about it for this week. See you next week.

Until next time!

Wind and Rain and Wind and Sun and Wind

The weather has been all over the place today. The one constant (in my opinion) is that it has been somewhat cool temperature-wise. I am still wearing my in-between-seasons coat.

Lew and I have gone for only one walk outside so far this year, and that was a couple weeks ago. I've been using the elliptical machine, but it's not the same as being outside in the fresh air.

I haven't gotten Mom outside again since our adventure last Monday. I'm not sure I have regained her trust yet!  LOL!

Some folks in our state are experiencing power outages, but we aren't. Not yet, anyway. The wind is still making itself known, so we'll see!

Happy Easter!

We had a nice Easter weekend.

Our church added a Saturday service last night, which Lew and I attended.  This enabled me to visit Mom this morning. I read the resurrection account from all four gospels to her! She loved it.

Then we had a noon meal at sister Debbie's. Zack made a surprise trip home from college, so it was fun to see him. Josh is still around, too, which is nice. (His next ship assignment begins in mid-May.)

The rest of the afternoon/evening was spent reading, watching sports, and there may have even been a few minutes of dozing off.

A Father/Daughter Laugh, Part 2

Dad continues to get mail from companies that believe he and I are an item! (Click HERE for a previous post on this.)

The below arrived in today's mail.  Ha ha!

I told him he didn't need to buy it for me.  😁😏

Dad 615: Bingo, Cars, and Bubbles

(Dad writes today. When I left the nursing home just now, he and Mom were settled in at the Bingo table. 😃 ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Not a real sunny day here, but temperature is in the mid-fifties. We are not where we want to be in the Spring, but we are on our way to Summer. We'll take it.

I plan on getting my blog post written early in the day, but somehow I never do the early writing.

I am getting ready to go see Lou for the afternoon. Tracy is visiting her mother now and I will be there within the hour.

Lou and I will play the car game with variable degrees of success and then play the bubble game, where I will be fortunate to win one game. I get whipped on a daily basis.

Don't feel like writing any more, so until next time!

An Adventure With Mom

The weather was beautiful today, so I decided to take Mom outside for a bit when I went to visit her.

We previously had walked completely around the nursing home building last summer, so I decided to do that with her again today.

This was not one of my better ideas.

There is a paved path that goes partway around the nursing home, but then it stops. Pushing Mom's wheelchair on the grass was not easy today since the ground was soft. Plus it wasn't level. Plus there were tree roots sticking up in places. Mom was patient with me and seemed more concerned about my getting tired than the very distinct possibility that she could be dumped from the wheelchair at any moment. But with a little backtracking at one point, we eventually completed our trip around the nursing home!

And if I suggest walking around the building again soon? Mom has been instructed to reply, "NO!"

🤣

The Perils of the Purple Pansy

I was invited to a baby shower last Saturday but was unable to attend. The shower was at my breakfast buddy Carole's home. The shower was for her granddaughter. (I did order a gift for her from her registry.)

This morning Carole brought a pansy to breakfast. I guess it was the shower favor, and she wanted me to have one.

She said it could be replanted outside, to which Lew said, "So we have a choice whether to kill it inside OR outside?!"  🤣

As we were leaving breakfast I again thanked Carole for the pansy — even though she was sending it to its doom! 🤣🤣

Here We Go Again

The first game of the season for the Red Sox was today. They played the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. (They got rained out yesterday.)

The nursing home gets NESN so Mom and I had the game on during my visit with her.

When I got back home I didn't watch the game for a while. When I did turn it on again, the Red Sox were ahead, 5-4, in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Yankees had the bases loaded with one out. The first batter I saw hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. I turned the game off.

The Red Sox lost in 11 innings.

Sigh.... I hate baseball.

Word Nerd

The past couple days I exchanged some text messages with my friend Mary. She asked me if I played Wordle and Nerdle online, and my reply was, "Of course!"

I learned of Wordle when some of my friends started posting their scores on Facebook. I checked it out and got hooked — although I don't post my scores on Facebook, ha ha! Then one of my friends mentioned Nerdle, which is similar to Wordle but is more math-oriented.

There are three additional games that I since learned about, and I shared those links with my friend Mary. The three games are called WordHurdle, Quordle, and WordPlay.

Mary wrote back that she probably wouldn't play any of the additional games I told her about.

A few hours later she wrote back to tell me she "caved."  Her favorite game is now Quordle!

Dad 614: Two Falls Today

(Dad writes today. Jerry is a good kitty... except when he's not. Nobody witnessed Mom's incident, so we can't be sure about what happened. ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Weather here is pretty good. The north currently is not getting the rain that's south of here. However, the next couple days are scheduled for rain and dampness.

While I was sitting here and eating my Subway sandwich, Jerry had other ideas. He jumped on the side table and quickly fell off. Problem was he spilled my soda all over me, my chair, the table, the floor, and – yes – somehow even got soda spots on the ceiling. I cleaned it up halfway and will let it dry out the rest of the day. While I'm writing this, Jerry is lying behind me in another chair. Friends again!

Next I received a call from the nursing home. I answered the phone to hear Michaela telling me that Lou had a fall, but she seems to be okay. She is being checked out every 15 minutes for vitals. Hopefully Tracy and I will learn more about what happened when we visit this afternoon. This is what concerns us; we don't want her falling. Please keep the prayers coming. Recently she has been saying she wants to walk again. Pray for a miracle!

Until next time!

Sports: Changing of the Guard

Three sports "legends" were defeated over the weekend:

→ Coach K. in the Men's NCAA tournament semi-final. 🏀
Coach K. is retiring, so Duke's Saturday night loss to North Carolina was his last game.

→ Norm Duke in the USBC Masters. 🎳
Norm is probably retiring from the professional bowling tour. His second place finish in the Masters was actually quite an accomplishment.

→ Coach Geno Auriemma in the Women's NCAA tournament final. 🏀
Prior to last night, he was 11-0 in NCAA tournament championship games. South Carolina completely dominated U.Conn.

Of course, I was rooting for all three of the above to win. Oh well, that's sports! Still fun to watch.
🏀🎳🏀

Looking forward to watching the Men's NCAA final tonight! 🏀

Morning Errands

This morning I got up bright and early so that I could run two errands. These errands are everyone's most favorite things to do:

  1. Renew driver's license at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles
  2. Register automobile at Town Hall.

When I got to the BMV, I was given #40. They were currently waiting on #22 or #23 (something like that). I had expected a significant wait, so I had things with me to pass the time. I think it was only about an hour or so until my number was called.

When I got to Town Hall, I was first in the waiting line. So I was not there for very long at all. Phew.

I had quite the morning out on the town!
