Dad 360: Couched In Comfort

(I was still at work when Dad wrote the following post, and I completely missed the sun's appearance. Rats. Enjoy Dad's post anyway! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! The day started off cloudy, cool, and damp. Late in the day now. Temperature has made it into the 60s. The sun is out. What a great afternoon.

Just got our new couch. Spouse is happy to see it and approves of the purchase Lew and I made. We (Spouse and I) are now sitting comfortably on the couch with our motorized leg lifts and heads back. It is comfortable!

Yesterday Lew played a very important role as we installed our new air conditioner. In fact, he did most of the installing. It runs well and is quite quiet compared to our older machine. If the weather stays the same, we will not need to run an air conditioner this year.

Now all I have to settle on is a new car. Maybe in the next couple of weeks I'll get that done. No purchase – just a rental! Stay tuned.

Until next time!

Sweater Weather

My father mentioned to me that I didn't post yesterday. I thought about writing something, but I decided to take the holiday off.

If I hadn't taken yesterday off, I would have skipped blogging tonight. The weather has been so cold and damp that I am starting to catch a cold. I guess you could say that the weather and I are both "under the weather."

I was feeling so cold this morning that I grabbed my long sweater before leaving for work. I wore my sweater all day in the office. The sweater of which I speak is my "go to" sweater for staying warm during the winter. That's how cold I felt!

Lew and I have a heated mattress pad and you better believe that it is already on. It will be nice to get into a warm bed.

I do hope that Mister Sun decides to make an appearance soon.

Good Night, Everybody!

Lew and I have been watching the T.V. show Frasier on Netflix. This show ran for eleven seasons!

Last night we finally reached the end of the series. We realized we will miss it. It was good to have a fun program to watch when we needed a laugh or just some down time.

So we decided to begin watching another series starting with Season 1, Episode 1.

The series?

Cheers, of course!

A Puzzling Pattern

My puzzling pattern has been to finish puzzles on Friday night while watching the Red Sox. I enjoy working on the puzzle, and it helps me not to get too nervous about the game.

Over the weekend I'll put the finished puzzle away and start a new one.  Maybe I'll get the edges done on Saturday and fill in some of the easy parts on Sunday. The background activity will be the Red Sox game or some other sporting event that Lew decides to watch.

Then I won't touch the puzzle again until Friday night. I try to finish so I can take a picture.... I need to have something interesting to put on the blog.

You're welcome.  :)

A Name Change

Lew mentioned in his post on Saturday that Fred's Fridge is now open for the summer.

Dad put an announcement on the garage door window. I snapped a photo of it before I left for work earlier this week.

I did not even notice until I looked at the picture that Fred's Fridge has undergone a name change!

Dad 359: Agent Lew

(I am glad my father is keeping Lew busy. Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another not-so-great spring day. A little cool. A little cloudy. However, the experts say we will get a soaking on Friday. Then the Memorial Day weekend. Saturday and Sunday to be alright, but not great. Monday could be raining. When will we get a string of warm, sunny days? Please! We have earned it!

Lew has been my agent to find me a new car, couch, and air conditioner. He seems to have everything under control. We will be visiting one or two places and I plan on purchasing a couch-type piece of furniture tomorrow. I want it now! Wish me luck.

Lew also has what I need for an auto in his sights. And knows exactly what I want for air conditioner. It is good to have an agent.

Spouse (Mary Lou) is continuing her work with her therapists. Seems to be improving daily. Keep the prayers coming!

Running out of paper. Sooo....

Until next time!

Ibuprofen, Anyone?

I've been fighting a slight headache all day.

Went to work late. Left early. But did get some projects done.

To bed early tonight.

I'm going to win this battle!

Jerry's Big Adventure

Jerry needed some dental work done, and today was the big day.

The vet thought one tooth may need to be extracted. Fortunately, all he needed was a really good cleaning. Hooray!

It took several hours for Jerry to recover from the effects of the anesthesia. Lew sent me this picture shortly after he got home:

"Where am I, Daddy?"

Tomorrow marks the five-year anniversary of the day we got Jerry. (Click HERE to read my post from that day.)

Happy Anniversary, Jerry! We are very glad your big adventure went well today. We love you, sweet kitty!

Lew's Logbook: Ready for Summer

(Lew's been busy! Enjoy his post. ~ Tracy)

I think we’re ready for summer.

Last week I went to town hall and got my "old man" beach pass. This permits me to park in the $10 parking lot at Pine Point… no charge. When the weather gets warm I go to the beach three to four times a week. Thank you, Town of Scarborough.

Tuesday I washed the deck and yesterday I put down the water seal. Today I put all the deck furniture and grill in place.

But the most important summer prep item is the stocking of Fred’s Fridge. I was just in the garage and noticed that the fridge is full of soda and ice cream.

We’re good to go.

Stop by anytime.

Bugged!

When I took my slippers off before showering yesterday morning, I noticed I had a bloody toe. I reached down to clean it, but then I realized it was really a loose scab. So I peeled it off...

... and discovered it was really a tick!

UGH!!!!!

The tick was alive and well. And it did not die easily. Lew was able to crunch it to death with the end of a kitchen implement.

Fortunately the tick had not burrowed into me. The best I can figure is that it came in on my sock after A Lovely Stroll. I had put my slippers on over my socks, and I bet the tick stayed in my slipper all night....

Socked feet at night, Tracy's delight. Bare feet in the morning, Tracy take warning!

There have been no additional tick sightings, thank goodness.

One more buggy event:  Today when I got to work, a wasp landed on the driver's side window of my car right after I parked. I was trapped! I stared the wasp down, and he eventually flew away. Then I dashed into the building.

I dislike bugs.

Dad 358: A Therapeutic Day

(I wonder if there is such a thing as a chocolate therapist. Wouldn't that be great? Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! What a beautiful day! And tomorrow is supposed to be better. Don't think this one can be improved on. Possible "too hot" tomorrow for this early in the season.

Had a busy day at the old homestead. Spouse (Mary Lou) had a visit from her physical therapist this morning. This was followed by her shower from her shower-giver. Not sure if she is a "shower therapist" or not. Do know that all the therapists and the visiting nurses are very competent and friendly. Makes all visits easily carried out. Spouse seems to be going in the right directions with all the workouts. Hope it continues. Keep your thoughts and prayers coming.

After the morning visits I was off to the grocery store for some shopping. Returned home after one and one-half hours. Then the fun began. What fun, you ask? Putting the groceries away! (All done! Hooray!)

'Nough said! Sooo....

Until next time!

A Lovely Stroll

It was such a beautiful day that Lew and I took an old-fashioned stroll when I got home from work.

As we started walking down the sidewalk hand-in-hand, I heard someone yell, "Hi, guys!" It was our neighbor across the street. He, his wife, and two children were all outside. So Lew and I crossed over to visit for a few minutes. Their daughter rushed into my arms and I picked her up for one of the best hugs ever. Their little boy rushed to Lew but then was bashful with me. After the hugs, the two children presented us with some flowers from their garden.

We crossed back and continued on our walk. When we got near the school we stepped aside to let a young woman and her dog go around us. She said her dog was a "man with a mission."

Shortly after that we encountered two more friends who were walking in the opposite direction. We stopped and had a nice sidewalk chat.

We still hadn't reached our intended destination when the gal with the dog was already on her way back! I told her, "We ran into some friends. We're really not this slow." She laughed. And I think the dog may have laughed, too.

When we were on the return half of our walk, we went by a family sitting outside on their front lawn. They waved and we waved back. Gorgeous weather makes everyone feel neighborly!

It really was a lovely stroll.

The flowers.  :)

Two Things

Thing One

My nephew Josh is on a training cruise for the summer. The cruise is for his schooling at Maine Maritime Academy (MMA). The MMA website does have a blog for the cruise, so check it out if you'd like to keep track of where Josh currently is. Here's the link:

Look what I finished Saturday morning!

Dad 357: Right Eye

(Will Dad's right eye get really big? Ha ha! Enjoy his post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Enjoying a week of non-enjoyable weather of some sun, some showers, and a lot of clouds.

Well, we have managed to take care of Spouse (Mary Lou) for one week at home so far. One additional issue we now have is she has suffered a back problem. We are trying pain meds and Icy Hots. Doesn't seem to be working really great. Hoping that her in-home therapy workers can help this improve. Quite busy with in-home help and nurse's visits. Thankful for that. Keep her in your prayers.

Now a brief story about my right eye. Daughter Deb was here earlier this week. She looked at my eye and said it looks like conjunctivitis. Tried to get over-the-counter meds from pharmacist. Was told to call and see my doctor. Called my eye doctor last night and saw his coworker today. No name given, but will be on steroid drops and will see my doctor on Monday. My eye seems the best today than it's been in the past week.

Just spent the last hour online watching grandson Josh off from Maine Maritime Academy on the "State of Maine" training ship for 90 days. Will take in Europe among its ports.

Enough for now, sooo....

Until next time!

A Routine Goal

Yesterday I told my boss that I am going to become a morning person.

She laughed, saying that you can't "become" a morning person. You either are one or you aren't. (So, chalk this up as another example of the "nature vs. nurture" debate.)

I am going to try to prove my boss wrong. I'm giving myself three weeks to adjust my internal clock by an hour.

But can I accomplish my desired morning routine and still get out of the house an hour earlier? I hope so; I want to win the bet with my boss.

Regarding the bet: The winner gets the quarter. I say "the" quarter because we have one quarter that we pass back and forth. It's even in a display case.

So I really have a lot riding on this.

Stay tuned.

Even More Puzzling...

If you saw my blog post from Friday, then you know I finished the Marilyn Monroe jigsaw puzzle!

It was by far the hardest puzzle I have ever done. I didn't keep track of the time I spent on it, but I know it was many, many, many hours.

I felt kind of sad on Saturday; I missed working on the puzzle. So yesterday (Sunday) I got out an easy jigsaw puzzle. It was only 250 pieces, so I was able to complete it while "watching" the Red Sox game.

I have some larger puzzles to tackle over the next few weeks. But none of them will measure up to the Marilyn Monroe challenge!

Lew's Logbook: Lousy Weather

(I feel your pain, Lew. I feel your pain.... ~ Tracy)

We’re not supposed to crab about the weather but we always do.

Just looked at the five day forecast. The sun is not in sight, with high temperatures only in the low 50s. Sigh!

Here is a picture of summer to make me feel better.

Mom's Carrots

Several days ago I mentioned that Mom's carrots had arrived. I promised I would eventually explain. (I imagine my readers have been in great suspense.)

Mom has two carrots, which she has named "Bunny" and "Wabbit." Only one carrot is in use at any given time.

The purpose of the carrot is to help Mom's stroke hand. Her hand remains clenched up, so she holds the carrot to help stretch things out. The material of the carrot is also good for the inside of the hand and fingers.

Last night I got Bunny and Wabbit to pose for a photo. Looking good!

Dad 356: Deja Vu All Over Again

(A busy day was had by all. Enjoy Dad's post!  ~  Tracy)

Derf Here!  Enjoying a cool, clear, sunny, somewhat windy day here in the Northeast. We seem to be progressing towards Spring and then Summer.  We're ready!

Spouse (Mary Lou) returned home yesterday. So today has been busy. We not only arranged a primary care doctor's appointment for Friday, but we also received a call from visiting nurses. A nurse did visit this afternoon and we've started to schedule home therapy sessions. Spouse has a physical therapist coming tomorrow — the same one she had a couple years ago. (She is happy about that!) We'll keep you posted on the progress. We still welcome your thoughts and prayers.

It looks as though we'll be busy the next few months with scheduled nurses and therapy sessions. We are looking for progress.

Done for today, sooo....

Until next time!

A Homecoming

Mom came home this morning!

Debbie and Dad went to the rehab facility to collect Mom and her things and to go over the discharge instructions.  (Debbie said Mom is "a walking pharmacy.")  Lew went to breakfast with his buddies, and then he stopped at the facility to bring home some stuff, too.

I stayed home to serve as the welcoming committee.

The kitties are very happy Mom is home. Jerry has stayed right near her, even napping with her this afternoon.

Welcome home, Mom!  💗
