The Memorial Day Weekend Yard Sale That Wasn't

Due to inclement weather, this weekend's yard sale was postponed to next weekend.

It is rainy and unseasonably cold today. We had to turn the heat up in the house.

Although not yard sale weather, it is a fine day to get errands done inside. Kim arrives tomorrow and the guest room is ready for her, I think.  Of course, there is always laundry to get done, too.

Dad and I went to visit Mom in her room today. I stayed a little over an hour.  Dad was planning to stay at least two hours, and he may still be there as I type this.

Even though the yard sale didn't happen, we still had breakfast with our breakfast buddies. (They were going to participate in the yard sale.) Our usual breakfast place and a backup place were both so busy that we ended up coming back to our house.  Lew made breakfast for us, and it was delicious!

Dad 569: A Room Visit!

(The storm came! Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another summer day. Reached the 80s and 90s. Cooler tomorrow. Actually I have my air conditioner on as I write this. Hope we get decent weather for our weekend yard sale! Please don't rain!! Just a request!

Lew is very busy getting ready for the yard sale. Already sold a lot of stuff to some people that saw it on the Internet. Must be nice to be able to work with the modern technology. It is great to have technical family members who know the score.

Deb and I had a fairly good visit with Mary Lou today. Deb showed Mary Lou a lot of pictures, which kept them both busy.

Highlight of the season for me was spending time yesterday with Mary Lou in her room. Going to plan on seeing her in her room daily now.

Tracy just got home so I better quit writing so she can set up the blog.

And we wait for the thunderstorm!

Tune in next week for more news.

Until next time!

Ducks Go "Quack!"

I visited with Mom in her room tonight on my way home from work.

We watched an episode of Andy Griffith while I was there.

I saw a duck outside Mom's window and took a photo of it.  She asked me to send the photo to Bode because she thought he would like to see it.  Kelsey texted back that he did enjoy seeing the duck, and that made Mom happy. 🦆

Entertainment

Lew and I haven't been watching baseball yet this year. It just isn't the same. We do watch bowling and golf.

We are almost through watching the second season of "The Crown" on Netflix. We know it is a dramatization, but we have learned a lot of history!  (We've been doing a lot of internet research.)

I started reading the Twilight series. My reason for doing so is "cultural literacy." Confession: I am enjoying it more than I thought I would!

Dad 568: A Beautiful Day

(Fred's Fridge is open for the season! Enjoy Dad's post! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Enjoying two days in a row that are very summer-like. Temps have been in the 70s both days.

Deb and I just got back from a visit with Mary Lou. It was so nice out that we chose to have our meeting outside. We did not get our full hour as Mary Lou had a strong urge to go to the bathroom! When she had to go a second time, we decided that might be a good time to end the visit. Our visit lasted about 1/2 hour. It was a good visit. I didn't have my mask on and actually kissed my bride on her lips. (No masks!!!)

Lew is making great progress for our yard sale on Memorial Day weekend. Our collection of bikes around the 1900 timeline have all been sold. I do have a few more bikes to sell; the more expensive ones will be available. Lew is very busy finding things to dispose of. Go, Lew!!

Josh and I got our garage refrigerator filled with soda and ice cream. All are welcome. Stop by!

Until next time!

An After-Work Visit Surprise

I made an appointment to visit Mom after work today.  Lew met me at the Center since he had not been for an inside visit with her yet.

When we got there, the Center director told us Mom was tired so they let her stay in her bed. Then the director led us to Mom's room.... Yes, we got to visit with her IN HER ROOM!

Mom was glad to see us, and it was so nice to sit by her bedside. We stayed for about half an hour.

I don't know if we will be able to have room visits on a regular basis, but tonight was definitely a step in the right direction!

Cat Walk

I have posted before about our nite-nite ritual with our kitties: Every night I take them over for a quick visit to my father so he can pat them on the head. When we return to our side of the house, they get goodies and some of their hard food.

Jerry often adds one more thing to this ritual. He stands by the door, knowing I am going to pick him up and take him over to see Dad. But when I go to pick him up, he will often lead me in a walk around the dining room table first. So I oblige him with this walk. Jerry and I both need the exercise!

Dad 567: Bikes and Kisses

(Dad writes today. Enjoy! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Another fairly good day today. Next two days are supposed to be warm (above normal) and dry. Hope to get our lawn mowed.

Had a very busy day today. Getting ready for our Memorial Day weekend yard sale. Lew put our bicycle sales on the computer yesterday. It is so quick that we sold all the bikes that we wanted to sell in one day. We only have the few left that will sell for higher prices. We will not have to sell them in a yard sale. We were planning on setting the bikes up down in the back yard, but all taken care of. Thanks, Lew!

Deb and I just got back from an inside visit with Mary Lou. She lasts about 45 - 50 minutes until she asks to go back to her room as she is very tired. Next visit inside will be Saturday at 1 PM. Tracy and I will visit with her.

Actually kissed my bride of 60 years lip-to-lip at our visit today. Then we pulled our masks back up. Even though we all have been vaccinated, we still have to wear masks. Why get the vaccine if you still must use a mask?

Until next time!

Strawberry Jello Cup

I was able to have an inside visit with Mom tonight after work. Still can't visit her in her room, but they brought her out to the lounge so we could have some time together.

When I scheduled the appointment, they told me I could bring her a snack. I brought her a choice of two jello cups: strawberry or mandarin orange. Guess which one she chose? (If you can't guess, then you didn't read the title of this post.  😁)

We had a nice visit, sometimes chatting and sometimes just sitting. It was nice to be together.

I'm hoping I can schedule another after-work visit with Mom soon!

Celebrating Mother's Day

Dad and I had an inside visit with Mom today, so we brought her Mother's Day cards and gifts to her.  She loved everything!

Kim and her family gave her a sweet flower arrangement.  Debbie and her family gave her a great hat that says ME Maine on it.  A photo of her displaying those gifts:

Dad and I brought her a couple boxes of candy from Len Libby's.  If I'm being honest, Dad bought the candy and I just took some of the credit for it.  But I did make a card for her, inside of which I included one of her favorite photos of her firstborn.... Me!

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!  We love you!

Road Trip to Memory Lane

Dad, Lew, and I went to Sanford/Springvale this afternoon for cousin Carol's graveside memorial service. It was a beautiful service, and we were able to speak with Carol's husband, Lester, a couple times.

We also stopped to pick up a whole bunch of super beef sandwiches. As Dad indicated in his post on Wednesday, there is no better sandwich in the world. So yummy!

We had some time before the sandwiches were ready, so we drove around a bit. Dad pointed out houses where he and other family members used to live. We even went by the house that we lived in when I was in kindergarten.

One house on our route had a cute little shed-like structure in the yard. He said it was his cousin Betty's dollhouse. Very whimsical looking. I'm glad the current homeowners left it standing.

We had a lovely afternoon.

Dad 566: Hellos and a Goodbye

(Dad writes today! ~ Tracy)

Derf Here! Celebrating another cool, wet day this spring. When will we get a string of summer-like days? Soon, I hope!

Writing this late in the day as we (Zack, Deb, and I) had an inside visit with Mary Lou today from 4 to 5 o'clock. Grandma was glad to see her big grandson after having not seen him in a while. She saw his brother, Josh, last week at a visit. The visit went well and hopefully we are getting closer to having in-room visits. Soon, I hope!

Will get a chance to visit her again tomorrow at 3:00 PM. Looking forward to that.

Friday, if all works out well, Lew, Tracy, and I will be in the Sanford area for a graveside burial ceremony. My cousin Carol passed on about a couple months ago. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

Then we will visit Foto's pizza house for some long-awaited super beef sandwiches. There is no better sandwich on this earth. We will buy our large order and eat them over the weekend! Looking forward to them.

Until next time!

A Scheduling Task

I was talking with some colleagues at work today about how I haven't had a vacation for a while. I did have three days off when I had the concussion, but that doesn't really count.

The problem with taking a whole week of vacation is that I have to return to work afterward.  And all the work that didn't get done while I was out will be sitting there waiting for me when I get back — not to mention all the new work that will continue to come in....

And that is when I remind myself, "Job security, Tracy, job security!"

I need to schedule my vacation.  😎

May Day

 So, this was today....

Dad and I went to visit with Mom this afternoon.  I asked her if she remembered what she was doing 58 years ago today.  She had a baby.... I was her little May Basket.

One of my co-workers is starting a new job this coming Wednesday, so yesterday was her last day with us. She gave me a birthday gift.... She nailed it!

Brittany's gift. 💗

I also received a cat-themed birthday gift from Debbie, Glen, Josh, and Zack. Everyone knows I love kitties!
